Boomarang Bistro & Bar

09 March 2010

Brunch, brunch, brunch. Don't we all love weekend mornings?

Well, if you've been to Robertson Qusy, I'm sure you must have spotted this colourful Alkaff Bridge along the river. At one end of it lies Epicurious, a popular cafe known for its brunch and burgers, but for today let's walk down a bit more and say G'day to Boomarang, an Australian-style bistro at Robertson's The Quayside.

Boomarang was buzzing with morning chatter and activity when we were there at half past eleven on a Sunday morning, and almost immediately you realise that most of the patrons here are Caucasian expats, happily enjoying their breakfasts with a cuppa or a glass of wine. Though one of the few Asians around, we were still served like any other by the wait staff, and for that alone I am pleased. Picture above shows the only other Asians around, other than us of course.

Chocolate Filled French Toast

The food however didn't quite meet our expectations. Chocolate filled french toast has all the promise of sweet decadence, and in my mind I had already envisioned eggy french toasts with warm, flowing chocolate and maybe some fresh sliced bananas or strawberries to wrap it up. What arrived instead was plain brown toast, which HELLO is not "french toast" since there's not a trace of egg and/or milk to be found. The chocolate sauce was good but it couldn't possibly save plain, dry toast, no, not by a mile.

Boomarang Eggs Benedict

Many ladies love to wake up to Ben, Eggs Benedict in particular. The lady having this commented that the muffin was too dry and she didn't like the hollandaise sauce that much.

Sticky Date Pudding

Step aside Marmalade Pantry, because this is one good sticky date pudding from Boomarang. While the lady liked the delectable vanilla bean ice-cream, I on the other hand adored the moist and chewy toffee "pudding" with the extra servings (on request) of caramel sauce. So while our mains didn't satisfy much, this lovely dessert definitely did! :)

Service
Good, though the wait staff can be quite busy on weekend mornings so you would need to try to get their attention. At least they try to be of service to you when they can, and to me I find that acceptable enough.

Price
$10.00 for the chocolate filled french toast
$16.00 for the boomarang eggs benedict
$10.00 for the sticky date pudding

* Prices subject to the usual 7% GST and 10% service charge.

Place
60 Robertson Quay, #01-15 The Quayside.

Is this a new place in RQ? I don't think I've seen this before.

I think it has been around since mid last year, if not earlier? Do note though that the mains are quite pricey and reviews haven't been the most encouraging!
