The Handburger

Since a couple of food blogs have featured The Handburger in the past week, I thought I should just hop on as well and do a short write-up on it now. My visit to the Handburger's Raffles City branch was a relatively recent one, not surprisingly to satisfy my ever so often burger craving. The lovely company of fellow foodie Elaine was an added bonus, as she kept me enthralled with stories of her amazing food adventures. Ah, the enchanting world of food indeed.

The Works Burger: 3.75/5

As the name suggests, The Works goes (almost) the whole nine yards with a grilled 180g beef patty topped with beer-battered onion rings, sunny side up egg, sauteed basil pesto mushrooms, onion rings, cheddar cheese, barbecue and aioli sauce, lettuce, tomatoes and of course, the well-toasted caramelised onion buns. It comes with bacon too (which I did away with), so you can imagine this is a pretty complete burger.

Overall, the burger was very good, and I especially liked the addition of onion rings. The sweet barbecue sauce and warmly-toasted buns are also worth mention. My only concern however is the beef patty, sure it was beefy, but it doesn't seem to be packed with a hundred percent of pure beef. Seems to have bits and pieces of what I suppose were fats and/or tendons, some may like the extra crunch but I prefer mine to be a bit more even in taste. Just a personal preference.

Here at The Handburger the fries aren't your usual plump, thick-cut fries and neither are they the crisp (and salty) shoestring types. What you get instead is something drier and tastes more like potato chips. Well, always a time for something different.

The burgers here of course aren't exactly cheap, but they'd satisfy a decent burger craving just fine. There's also another branch at the newly opened 313 @ Somerset mall. But at this juncture I thought you should know that there's a another "new kid on the block" in the Orchard Road vicinity that's worth a try. Sure, the burgers are not as big as those from The Handburger, but they hail from a particularly famous burger joint at Cluny Court, tastes good and cost about half as much. Service here was friendly and polite, and they regularly fill your glasses with water. While the service crew take your orders just like any (non fast-food) restaurant would, you would have to pay for your meals at a counter thereafter. This is fine with me, especially since there is no service charge imposed, but it's the same thing at the 313 branch where there is a 10% service charge.
