Bangkok: Mah Boon Krong Food Centre

16 May 2008

Perhaps the most famous shopping centre in Thailand, Mah Boon Krong Centre or more affectionately known as MBK, is a packed complex with a host of things that you could spend more than a day going through. It also boasts a very good food court that sells great food at great prices.

One thing about Thailand and its shopping centres is that it has security guards in many areas, and one of their tasks it seems is to stop people from taking pictures within the complexes itself. Pretty odd, but me and Daphne still tried to take what we could.

As you can see above, it works on a coupon basis, so you've got to change Thai baht for coupons, and unused coupons can be refunded for cash. Some people say such a cashless system is more efficient, but perhaps it's only to prevent stealing by employees at the stalls for all you know.

And this is the stall that we ordered from.

Seafood Fried Kway Teow and Noodles

Seafood Fried Kway Teow: 8/10

It didn't smell promising, but once you tasted it, you just went on eating. It was very tasty indeed.

Seafood Fried Noodles: 7.5/10

I was teasing Daphne of her penchant for maggi noodles, but she liked this nonetheless.

Tom Yum Soup with Seafood: 9.3/10

This is probably the best tom yum soup we've tasted in our Bangkok trip. It was sour, it was extra spicy, it was fantastic. We initially tasted the soup from our friend Kimberly, who ordered it with rice, but at first taste quickly went to order another bowl for us. Yummy.

Service
They were pretty alright in understanding English, in case any of you are concerned. The menu has English in it too.

Price
45baht ~ $2 (!!) for the noodles
75baht ~ $3.30 for the soup

Place
Mah Boon Krong Centre
Level 6 Food Centre
